Chapter 3, Lesson 3 Multimedia

Density of Water

A sample of water molecules, showing that they have the same size and are relatively close together.
  • Water molecules have the same mass and size, are packed pretty close together, and are spread evenly throughout.
  • Since the water is the same throughout an entire sample, the density is the same for any amount of water.

Liquid Water

  • Water molecules have the same mass and size. They are packed close together, but are always moving. Even though they are moving, their packing is the same throughout the entire sample.
  • Since the water is the same throughout an entire sample, the density is the same for any amount of water. This video appears courtesy of Roy Tasker.
